Staying Busy in Florida

We are now well into the new year, 2008, and have been enjoying the warm temps and sunny skies in Florida. This has given us the chance to help our friends, Tom and Denise, with some projects. The main focus has been on remodeling a cottage on their acreage. You can see from the photos the progress on the exterior that has taken place. Instead of, Flip This House, we call it, The Little House That Could. Our goal has been to recycle as much of the house back into itself. We feel we have accomplished this and the results have been great. We drive by a family of goats and spring has brought the birth of new kid goats. They are fun to watch jump and play with each other as they grow. We have started a fun activity of roasting hot dogs on a pitch fork and enjoying the great taste of grilled dogs in the outdoors. What a treat! Jo has gotten carried away with the power washing and did a little personalization of her work. I was able to get a picture as I was painting on the roof. Keeping the horse pasture cleared of limbs keeps Jo busy. Pete and Genius like to follow her around as she picks up limbs and once in a while she will stop to give them a pat on the back. We have again been blessed to have friends, Ray and Eunice, from north Iowa, stop and visit us. We always love to have friends let us know they are visiting Florida so we can get together with them and catch up on what is going on back home. We've added Nellie Belle to our tractor collection. This is a 1951, 8N Ford. The same model that myself and my brothers grew up with on the farm. Such memories this tractor brings back to us. More projects are in progress and we have been "staying busy" while enjoying our winter in Florida.

Horsin' Around

Our friends Tom and Denise have three horses, Cruise, Genius, and Pete. We have had the opportunity to help take care of them, watch their behavior, learn their personalities and enjoy riding them. Even on sunny days they have their own shades, worn mostly for fly control around their eyes. They all wear shoes, and have to have their hooves trimmed and shoes refitted. Larry, the farrier, doing the work was very interesting and does work across much of Florida. The horses are very comfortable in having their pedicure as you can see from the photos.
