A Day on the Farm
A day on the farm involves taking our tractors for a ride. Jo's brother, Steve, stopped to see our latest tractor in our collection. The 1939 Farmall F20 was a similar model that my grandfather purchased for his first tractor. Payton enjoys riding on the tractors when she stops with Grandpa and Grandma, Steve and Arlys. My brother, Steve and Olivia, installed new railing on the porch front of their home. Good to see Steph and Jim when they were home getting ready for college. The tractors are fun to share with viewers as they drive by the farm. Stop in and visit. We always enjoy visiting with those that are enthusiasts or collectors of old tractors.

Fayette Unorganized Tractor Ride
The local community of Fayette, held their Watermelon Days and on Sunday had an unorganized tractor ride. We joined 26 other tractors and a total of 35 people to drive 60 miles on the round trip. We stopped in Wadena for a break. Then off to Volga for another quick stop. Lunch was ready at the Strawberry Point Hotel which everyone enjoyed. Then off on the return trip back to Fayette. Drove some blacktop roads, mostly gravel, and then some Grade B roads to see beautiful scenery in rural northeast Iowa. Jo and I took our 1959 IH 460 on its inaugural ride. We had a blast looking at the crops, the river valleys, and the wildlife along the way. Looking forward to our next ride. Had a lot of comments on our double suspension seat as we road side by side, cheek to cheek.

Enjoying the Summer Weather
We have been enjoying the summer weather with mowing the lawn and sharing the tractors in our collection. It is fun to see drivers slow as they pass by the farm and look at the tractors. Had fun helping put up haylage for neighbors, Andrew and Mark. I was able to assist in raking hay ahead of the chopper. Always feels good to get on a tractor, even though it is green, and help with the harvest. We enjoy the rural setting and like to share it with family and friends.

Fayette County Fair
Our local County Fair was a fun filled week with many activities involving the 4-H and FFA youth. There were many different classes of all species of animals being displayed and shown each day of the fair. Jo and I volunteered time to help prepare the fair grounds for the weeks event. We enjoyed helping as it brought back many memories of when we were involved in the fair when we were kids. Now we can return the same to the kids that represent the future of agriculture in Fayette County. We had a display for the underground fiberglass storm shelters we sell for interested parties looking for a safe place during the storms we have been seeing in the area. We were most impressed by the obedience of the dogs during the 4-H dog show. What patience these animals have for their masters. Our favorite show is the Kiddie Calf Show. The affection these kids have for the calves is just tremendous. The excitement in their eyes glows with each interview and chance to show their skills. They are the next generation to operate our farms and feed our country. Jo and I painted the old drinking fountain, a staple at the fair, the colors of the 4-H organization.
