Traveling the Gulf Coast to Houston, Texas

We traveled across the Gulf Coast heading to Texas. It was good to be back on the road again and see different areas of the country. Parts of Louisiana still showed damage from Hurricane Katrina. Many of the state parks and rest areas along I-10 were closed for repair. We felt closer to home as we crossed the majestic Mississippi River. One stretch had a 20 mile double bridge that crossed open bayous. Arriving in Houston, we enjoyed visiting Jo's niece, Laura, and her friends David and Alicia for an evening dinner out.

Leaving Brooksville, Florida

We are preparing to leave Brooksville, Florida and our stay with our friends, Tom and Denise. Brooksville is located in Hernando County. The city has several murals located on buildings downtown and you can view one here photographed in sections. The detail is superb and shows events that occurred in the town's history. We have enjoyed the area, met local business people and have had great weather. The display shows the current temperature of 78 degrees as we plan to continue our journey west to Texas. As of today, our camera has logged over 10,000 photos taken. Hope you are enjoying the ones we've chosen to post on our blog.

Finishing Up in Florida

Our travel-venture is drawing to a close in Florida. We had a great time, wonderful weather, terrific friends, and many tasks completed. The flowers are blooming and the air plants are plentiful. We bush hogged the acreage for the last time this season. To celebrate a job well done and some work clothes worn out, we had a bonfire where Vaughn's work jeans were burned as the last hurrah and a good laugh was had by all. Then a group picture as we made plans for next year.

Spring Activities

We have enjoyed many activities as spring is in the air. Jo and Denise went horse back riding through the Withlacoochee State Forest of 25,000 acres right in the back yard. The horses enjoyed the ride as well. We did some updating at the pottery studio with new doors, new paint and staining the picket fence. The warm weather on Tom's birthday allowed us to drive their sports cars to a restaurant in Floral City to celebrate. The scenic drive through the backroads was pretty with the Majestic Oaks hanging over the road. Lillie had to stay home and didn't want to come out from under the rug. Did some horse pasture work with dragging the pasture to keep it smooth for the horses. They also like a clean tank to drink from as the weather warms up.

Spring is Blossoming

Spring is definitely in the air with warm temperatures, clear blue skies, flowers blooming and the birds singing. The azaleas are blooming in the front yard, so of course we had to use them as a natural backdrop. The trees are budding and the new leaves are showing their color. The cardinals can be heard singing in the cool mornings. The turkey is perched on the fence at the rear of our motor home. The entire flock makes their way each day around our motor home and through the horse paddocks. Lillie, the cat, enjoys having a conversation with the turkeys as they greet each other by the pool deck. At a neighboring acreage, the new green shoots of rye grass make for a beautiful view with the Majestic Oaks and the Spanish Moss growing on them.

Family Motor Coach - Southeast Area Rally

The Family Motor Coach Association, FMCA, has International and Regional Rallies. The South East Region, holds their rally in Brooksville, Florida at the Hernando County Airport. We wanted to visit the rally and visit with friends and Winnebago Representatives with the display units. We enjoyed visiting with several folks and looking at the new units from different manufacturers. The rally has a vendor display tent, an entertainment tent and of course some great food. I recommend the barbeque pulled pork. The motor coaches are lined up along the air strips and have a great venue for a rally.

Endless Summer

We took a day to go sailing in the Gulf. The day started off with beautiful blue skies in the canal leaving for Gulf waters. The water temperature was cool and the air temperature was warm, creating a low ceiling with heavy fog. Sailing was limited to going out in the channel and waiting to see if the fog would lift. We had lunch while waiting. Listening to the weather radio, we decided to return to the cottage. There will always be another great day for sailing as this is the land of an "Endless Summer".
