Sunrise Trail

There is a special feeling of welcome all along the Sunrise Trail, from the warmth of the gentle surf that caresses red sand beaches to the friendly people we met. Along Northport we found this beach with many agates on the shore as the tide had retreated. A delicious fish and chips lunch can be found at many unique road side stands. The meal from Dino's was great. Work was being done along the coast as farmers were preparing hay for winter storage and wood was being gathered and placed in easy access locations for the approaching cold temps. Toney River Harbour is a popular site along the Sunrise Trail. The bushes along the walking trails are full of ripe berries for the migrating birds. Cape George lighthouse stands 1000 feet above the tide since 1895 and overlooks the village, Ballantyne's Cove, surrounded by red cliffs. The many fishing vessels, uniquely named, are moored in the harbour. The lobster cages are repaired and stored for their next catch. The many colorful Adirondack chairs caught our eye while driving the trail.
