Reversing Falls at Pembroke, Maine
One of the country roads led to The Reversing Falls. The phenomenon is created as the tides
go out and come in each day. While this is occuring there is fishing taking place for sea urchins. We observed the tide coming in and you can see from the three photos that the small rock island is gradually completely covered with water over the six hour period of the incoming tide. The incoming water creates the largest whirlpools in the Western Hemisphere. The falls are created as the water moves over the rocks in the inlet. The one photo shows the rocks that we were sitting on as the tide came in. Had we remained there we would have gotten our feet wet. Not only was the reversing falls interesting, the scenery was great during the day and into the evening.
