Tillamook Cheese Plant

This blog is for all our friends, especially those at Kraft Foods. We were introduced to Tillamook Ice Cream at a strawberry festival we attended. They suggested we take a day trip and visit the Tillamook Cheese plant in Tillamook, WA. The self guided tour was very interesting with a viewing area of cheese production and packaging. They also have TV monitors explaining all aspects of the process. There is an interactive area for youth with touch screens for them to learn more about cheese production. They have a cheese tasting area that leads into a visitor retail section for cheeses, jams, ice cream, meats, and all sorts of other items related to the area. The valley has many dairy farms of different sizes. I was most interested in the fact that several breeds of dairy cows are used for producing milk used at the plant. The visitor center is a state of the art presentation to the public on cheese production from the off loading of the milk, the processing of the cheese, the automated packaging systems and then being able to purchase it right there. Great idea for the Jell-O plant, don't you think? Note the ample parking area for motor homes.
